HISTORY
Originally developed around the High Street of Addlestone to provide residential housing as a development of Chertsey, Addlestone expanded in 1848 with the introduction of the Railway Line and Addlestone Railway Station.

In the early eighteenth century it became fashionable for the gentry to live away from London and together with the development of many fine buildings in Chertsey, Addlestone became home to some splendid country estates.

These country Estates were gradually developed over the years into industrial areas and provided employment for local people in factories mainly relating to the aviation industry. Between the first and second world wars the introduction of St. Peter's Hospital to the area brought more workers and much local housing was built to acommodate the influx of the new residents.

The development of Station Road from the High Street to the Station forms the present day Addlestone Town Centre and the Tescos store now stands on the site of the Addlestone Coop, which served the local residential areas for many years.

Between the 1950's and 1980's much more residential development ensued and the arrival of the M25 once again made the area more desirable for people commuting to both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports and the centre of London.
